We have many volunteers across Canada working hard to help effect change to the Criminal Code of Canada with respect to animal cruetly legislation.

What can you do to help?

Our goal is to have the Criminal Code of Canada amended to remove animals from the property section of the Code and put into a new section where criminal charges can be laid for animal cruelty offences. We affectionately refer to this amendment as "Brigadiers Law". To have this Bill passed would be the ultimate tribute to Brigadier. It remains unacceptable that the Criminal Code of Canada still deems animals to be property – especially police service animals.

To help with this movement, simply email info@brigadierslaw.ca and say "I need a petition and media kit." Also let me know what city or region you will be covering. We need this information to avoid duplication and to coordinate this movement. I have researched the petition format that Parliament requires and so I will email you a ”pdf” printable format for your use. No need to reinvent the wheel! I will also provide you with a list of business types that have worked very well for my petitions. (I am presently handling the Niagara region.) With respect to the media kit, please feel free to make the letters your own. This needs to be your voice as well.

The goal is to have this movement across Canada and then submit all petitions at the same time. We will be one voice this way. Also, the media is an effective way to get the message out and they can be more than helpful. I have found that the public is simply unaware of the status of animals (particularly police service animals) in the Criminal Code. Once aware, the public does and will rise to the occasion.

If you have any other tried and proven methods to promote the signing of the petitions and provide media coverage, please let me know via email and I will add them to this site.

Yours in action,

Lydia
